Mitsubishi was profitable in North America in 2014, with just 117,000 sales. and that was with a plant operating way below capacity. Mitsubishi is nowhere near dead yet.

Yes, but what was it for the last 5 years? Are they coming out of a slump or are they just having a bubble right now?

Like Mazda, they really need to partner with a major automaker that has already amortized giant fixed costs like engine development over huge volume. A DSM revival, or maybe something with GM.

I can see Honda owning Mitsubishi.

Believe it or not, the Mirage is a pretty good seller.

The now-grown-up DSM kids will howl. Pick someone with FI or displacement. I’ve already claimed Ecoboost for the entire Mazda lineup.

Ok that's the one car, as a brand the company needs to turn a profit if not the sales number of one car doesn't matter

Yeah but dead can have different meanings depending how you look at it. Elsewhere around the world Mitsubishi is doing very well but in the US they have like 1% market share. Top if off with them killing their pride and joy the evo they are pretty much just a walking corpse. The rest of their lineup for the most part is garbage and the fact that I haven’t come across a Mitsubishi dealership in over 5 years is really saying something. Yeah, they might have put themselves in a position where they can be profitable at subsustinance level but what’s the point. Mitsubishi is dead at least to me and an eco version of the lancer sure as hell is not going to get me interested unless this thing is kicking out 400hp all while being carbon neutral.

Great, but they don’t make anything worth talking about anymore. Might as well be dead

sales growth for the past three and a half years. if sales growth continues through the end of this year, Mitsubishi will be having its best year here since 2005!

but the brand is profitable overall. what’s the problem?

The big problem will be is the auto segment of the company doing well? Because they make so many other things in the company
